The team of President-elect Donald Trump so far hasn't offered anything "interesting" for Moscow regarding the end of the war in Ukraine - Russia's permanent UN representative Nebenzya.

"These are some unshaped unclear signals about readiness for something. We often hear the words 'freezing the conflict'. President [Putin] has said the last time on December 19th, loud and clear, what are the conditions on which we are ready discuss not freezing but ending this conflict.... But so far, nothing that comes in the signals from the new American administration doesn't signify anything that might be of interest to us," Nebenzya told Russia-24 channel in an interview.

"I'd tell him [Putin] to go f*ck himself. I lived through that war, I know how hungry I was then. And now I'm hungry too! Russians are afraid of everything. Russians are afraid to speak." - a Russian grandma says.

Unfortunately, not a lot of Russians think like her.

The Baltic Sea is becoming the scene of Russia's undeclared hybrid war against NATO - Bild

First, the Russian military fired signaling ammunition at a Bundeswehr helicopter. Then, an underwater internet cable from Helsinki to Rostock was cut. Now, there is an increase in UAVs flying over German training grounds and harbors.

"We are experiencing hybrid warfare! It's like the Cold War," German Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said on Deutschlandfunk radio station.

The Friedrich Naumann Foundation notes another danger in the region - Russia has turned Kaliningrad into a well-equipped military bastion with nuclear-capable missiles, modern air defense systems, extensive coastal defenses, and a strong Baltic Fleet, thanks to which Russia can threaten its neighbors in the Baltic Sea.

Russian provocations in the sky have already become a routine. Last year alone, a total of 300 Russian aircraft were intercepted violating NATO airspace, most of them near the Baltic states.

Russian missile strike on Chernihiv today destroyed several residential buildings.

As of now, one person is dead, several more injured. Rescue work continues.

Russia is attacking Ukraine with ballistic missiles, especially Chernihiv region.

This is the third or fourth air raid alert today.

Ukrainian reality.

The number of strikes on the Kherson region in 2024 increased 1.5 times. The number of injured people has also increased, local authorities report.

"In 2024, 2,187 people were injured or killed due to Russian shelling. This is more than 200 more people than in 2023," - head of Kherson regional military administration.

"In five months - almost 12,000 UAV attacks that cut short the lives of 54 people; another 609, including eight children, were injured," he added.

Russian human safari on Kherson continues. Living in the city is becoming unbearable which is exactly what Russia wants.

As a result of the crash of two Russian tankers, 2,400 tons of fuel oil leaked into the Black Sea, the Russian Ministry of Transport said, stressing that "this is significantly less than the initial estimate given from the words of the tankers' captains."

Despite "reassurances" of Russian officials (and we know how "trustworthy" they are), the environmental catastrophe already lasts for weeks and has spread to a large territory.

Russian shadow fleet is a ticking environmental bomb.

It is noted that this spill is "the world's first accident with 'heavy' M100 fuel oil". Such mazut is "almost as dense as water and heavier". It solidifies at a temperature of +25℃ and, unlike other oil products, does not float to the surface.

Inflation in Russia keeps growing. Economic experts say that real inflation hovers around 20% right now, and will keep growing.

Videos of soaring prices for groceries are going viral on Russian social media.

Some Russians also try complaining to their local authorities about this - unsurprisingly, to no avail. In Yoshkar-Ola, a local MP Andrey Sakovich was deeply offended by such requests. "I am congratulating people with the New Year, and you write filth here," he reacted when a resident asked him about growing food prices in stores. "If you do not want to be treated like a doormat, do not come here again!" he told his opponent.

The mazut fuel from the Russian tankers has reached Russian-occupied Crimea, Russian emergency situations ministry was forced to admit.

Oil stains were found in numerous locations by Crimean coasts.

The same (but on a much larger scale) can happen anytime to any Russian shadow fleet tanker. The environmental disaster that will and its costs will be unbelievably high.

"Will Russia be able to wage a war with the United States? China must get ready for the worst and make three preparations in advance" - this is the title of a Chinese blog post called "The Order of a Great State" (link below). It was published several days ago and it gives recommendations for China in case Russia is defeated and breaks down if the United States directly enter the war on Ukraine's side against Russia.

It's apparent that the publication didn't appear by accident. China assesses all possible scenarios of how the situation might develop, including Russia's possible defeat and disintegration, and is making preparations for all of them.

Unlike the West, which is largely guided by irrational fears regarding Russia's possible breakup, China is very pragmatic about this possibility and is developing action plans.

These musings are important as they show that China is considering different options of future relations with Russia and the West.

The three recommendations for China in this publication are as follows:

1️⃣ Make preparations for a possible war with the United States. "Currently, Russia might help China to share part of the pressure from the USA, but as soon as Russia falls, the United States will be able to concentrate all their energy on the fight with China," the article goes.

2️⃣ Ensure Europe's neutrality in this war. China must build its relations with European countries in a way to "not only make these countries take an opposite side from the United States but guarantee that after the United States announce war to China, they will remain neutral or at least will not interfere too much in the Chinese-American conflict." China must proceed from the fact that it has huge potential for cooperation with Europe and "no fundamental conflict of interest nor any geostrategic contradiction. Common interest of the parties far outweigh their differences."

3️⃣ Revise its policy regarding Russia in case a "pro-American" regime comes to power there (or even if "anti-American" Putin loses his power). "As soon as Russia falls, China will have to think how to treat Russia: fundamental changes might happen inside it... As soon as Russia falls, Putin will probably have to resign. Currently, to have better control of Russia, the United States and the West will probably support a pro-American Russian government. And then Russia might become an enemy to China, not an ally. In that case, China will have to alter its policy regarding Russia. Russia and China are separated by a long land border. As soon as Russia's internal development changes drastically, China will have to place troops on the Chinese-Russian border in order to not allow Russian internal changes to influence China," the "Order of a Great State" writes.

It is a well-known fact that Chinese media that write on topics like this are heavily censored. A publication of this sort probably appeared after someone at the top allowed this. Consequently, this could be a sort of "signal" that Beijing saw fit to make public.

The signal is probably intended to demonstrate that China has made a realistic and sober assessment of the situation and is prepared for any outcome, including the change of leadership in Russia to a "pro-Western" one and Russia's possible disintegration.

China plays its own geopolitical game, using Russia, counting on possible American-European disagreements and using the war in Ukraine to enhance its own positions.

All of these are important points for future decisions and strategy that need to be considered and noted.

Russia continues to expand its Axis of allies. After many months of back-and-forth, they are finally removing the Taliban, which currently rules Afghanistan, from the list of "terrorist organizations", enabling Moscow to build closer relations with Kabul.

Taliban is known for systematic oppression of women's rights, no political freedoms and enabling terrorism.

However, after the United States withdrew from Afghanistan, large supplies of weapons and military equipment were left behind - about $80 billion worth, according to open information. They have already been found in "black markets" around the world.

There have been reports that the Taliban are among the largest weapon sellers in the world, and that they may have already sold some equipment to China and Russia. This information has not been confirmed, and it's unclear what or how much they got in return. But it's clear that when Russia deepens its cooperation with Afghanistan, weapons will be something they will be most interested in.

The axis of evil continues growing stronger while the West lingers.

Roma Oleksiv suffered 45% burns to his body from the Russian missile attack on Vinnytsia in the summer of 2022. His mom was killed in the attack.

Roma underwent almost 30 surgeries in Germany. He was in intensive care for more than 100 days, and then, for two years, he had to wear special compression bandages to help restrain the intensive growth of scars and facilitate skin plastic surgery. His rehabilitation continues but Roma is finally able to take his mask off.

Russian shadow fleet not just allows Russia to earn money for its war on Ukraine but is also an environmental catastrophe waiting to happen.

In a September video by Yle. fi, experts explain that about 70% of the tankers used in the Russian shadow fleet are at least 15 years old. They do not go through proper servicing which increases the risk of technical issues and malfunctions. A lot of these vessels have been blacklisted in the first place because their condition is so bad (meaning they are not allowed to sail) but they still continue voyaging through the Gulf of Finland, for example. Many of them sail under the jurisdictions of different countries, which makes them harder to track.

The risk of an oil spill is getting more and more likely - and the shadow vessels carry tens of thousands tons of oil. The environmental disaster that would follow would have an unprecedented scale. It will affect all forms of wildlife and sea life, destroy the business of fishermen and coastal tourism for years, if not decades.

Its aftermath for the environment would be indescribable, and the costs to mitigate such a disaster will be exorbitant. Since Russian shadow fleet tankers mostly don't have proper insurance, there is very little chance that any payments will follow that will cover the costs. These expenses will have to be borne by the country/countries near which this will happen, combined with future economic losses caused by damage to the environment.

Moreover, Russian shadow fleet tankers are an extra burden for the coast guards as they have to check more vessels (again, many of them are in very poor condition) and have extra training, working on scenarios of possible environmental disasters.

According to experts quoted by Yle. fi, from January 2022 to August 2024, 380 million tons of Russian oil and other petroleum products went through the Gulf of Finland, earning Russia more than $220 billion for the war in Ukraine.

It is obvious at this point that tackling Russian shadow fleet and cutting off or substantially decreasing Russian oil profits is a top priority towards ending the war and ensuring lasting peace. However, as with almost everything in this war, stopping Russia is also very important for the environment - globally and locally. Currently, this fleet is a ticking bomb that can explode tens of thousand of oil into water at any moment.

Russia underestimated Chechnya and was defeated in what later became known as the First Chechen War.

Later, Russia learned from its mistakes and won the Second Chechen War, leveling Grozny to the ground.

Ukraine needs reliable functioning security guarantees for a lasting peace, not just a ceasefire that will allow Russia to attack again. This is of the utmost importance not just for Ukraine but for European security in general.

❗️In 2024, the 25 richest Russians collectively increased their wealth by $18.5 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Vladimir Potanin, Russia’s wealthiest man and a major shareholder in Norilsk Nickel, saw his fortune grow by $736 million, reaching $31.8 billion. Meanwhile, Vagit Alekperov, co-owner of Lukoil, added $2.59 billion to his wealth, bringing his total to $27.2 billion.

These gains are not just numbers—they are a stark reminder of significant gaps in the current sanctions regime. Companies like Lukoil and Norilsk Nickel, tied to Putin’s inner circle, continue to thrive, enabling the Kremlin’s war machine.

As long as Putin’s closest allies keep profiting, they have no incentive to oppose his policies, including the ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Cutting off their financial lifelines is one of the most effective ways to undermine the Kremlin.

When oligarchs like Potanin and Alekperov can no longer sustain their wealth and businesses under sanctions, their support for Putin’s aggression will falter. Decisive actions are needed urgently to close these loopholes and make collaboration with Putin’s regime unsustainable. Not just the oligarchs but their families and people from their inner circle must be sanctioned.

"Shoot all the f*cking cars. As for the locals, f*ck if I know. I'd rather kill the locals. You should round up all the locals, tie them up, and f*cking torture them."

Soldiers of the 3rd Assault Brigade of the AFU found the phone of a killed Russian soldier who filmed on how his colleague Rudakov Oleg Igorevich (call sign "Rudik") gave criminal orders to Russian soldiers who were closer to the contact line, such as shooting and torturing the locals.
