🗣Rising Food Prices Loom as Transport Costs Soar
Nigerians should brace for skyrocketing food prices in December, warns the Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria (AUFCDN).
AUFCDN President Mohammed Tahir highlighted escalating transport costs driven by high fuel prices, double taxation, and daily extortion on federal highways. Moving a trailer of rice or beans from Sokoto to Port Harcourt now costs N2.25 million, straining transporters and causing food prices to climb.
He also criticized local authorities and "agberos" for harassing drivers, particularly in the South-East, South-South, and South-West regions. Despite the challenges, Tahir stressed the union's commitment to avoiding strikes, urging the government to intervene to ease the burden and stabilize food supply.
