KHARKIV FRONT LIGHTS UP

In an effort to regain the initiative and perhaps distract Ukrainian forces from Kursk, the Russians attempted a new offensive on the western side of the front.
It originated in two parts, one was a completely new attack west of the western section over the Ukrainian border, in an attempt to push down the road that accesses two villages west of the key town of Liptsy. This you will recall has been their objective all along as it puts Russian artillery in range of shelling Kharkiv city.
The second part of the offensive was to attack from east of Hibolkye, again towards Liptsy.
Yet again elements of the eight times reconstituted Russian 155th Marine Brigade were involved (also partly active in Kursk), but Ukrainian drones were so effective it blunted the attack from the west before it ever got underway. Three BMP-2 and many of their marines died in the attempt.
The Russians using turtle tanks and BMP’s tried moving from the other direction, but as soon as the forward tank was destroyed the others turned around and fled.
The Ukrainians then mounted a nighttime cross-border raid into Russia and captured many of the disoriented marines that escaped from the failed attack force.
North of Liptsy the Ukrainian forces prepared an overnight surprise for the Russians using a combination of HE, napalm and incendiary drone attacks followed by artillery.
This was followed by attacks by Ukrainian special forces using APC’s to race along the road into Russian lines. Penetrating quickly they engaged in close quarters night combat - using training and night vision kit to completely outclass the Russian defenders.
The Russians failed completely in one direction and the Ukrainians seized back a key tranche of forested areas using special forces.
The whole Russian operation seems to have been compromised from the start, with weak preparations and a failure to disguise what they were doing when under near permanent observation.
Ukrainians making such surgical counter moves proved devastating and disastrous for the Russians who had the tables completely turned on them. An
outstanding defensive operation that turned into a Russian rout and recaptured land.

NATO countries establish 24-hour military control over the Baltic Sea

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius inaugurated a new NATO naval headquarters in Rostock, designed to continuously monitor the situation in the Baltic Sea. In his speech, he stressed the region's special strategic importance, noting its geographical proximity to Russia, which he said was waging "unceasing aggression" aimed at destabilisation.

"The new headquarters will play a key role in protecting NATO's interests, especially given its proximity to Russia," Pistorius said (as quoted by DW). He noted that Russian aggression comes in various forms, from hybrid to cyber attacks. These actions blur the lines between peace and war, undermine European security, violate trust, and contribute to Moscow's growing influence, the German defense minister added.

The minister particularly stressed the need to prevent Russia from strengthening its position: "We need to do everything possible to ensure that Putin does not pass. We are obliged to defend ourselves and provide support to our partners on NATO's eastern flank."

The Baltic Sea, as Pistorius recalled, is one of the most important strategic regions in Northern Europe. This region plays a key role not only from a military but also from an economic point of view. Large wind farms are located here, thousands of kilometers of cables and pipelines are laid, and numerous ports operate. Germany, which has the largest navy among the Western countries in the region, as well as significant experience and expertise in maritime operations, is now taking responsibility for security in the Baltic, the minister said.

South Korea Could Follow North Into Russia-Ukraine War - Newsweek

South Korea may send its military advisers and intelligence officers to Ukraine

https://www.newsweek.com/south-korea-news-could-follow-north-russia-ukraine-war-1972082

They will potentially conduct interrogations in Ukraine or provide interpreter services if North Korean soldiers are captured by Ukrainian forces. Also, this "observation mission" could provide Kyiv with information about North Korea's military tactics, doctrine, and operations, South Korean media reported, citing Ministry of National Defense spokesman Jeon Hye-gyu and sources.

Seoul began to consider this possibility after the DPRK sent its own troops to support the Russian Federation. Against this background, the Ministry of Defense of South Korea announced that it will also review the measures regarding the possible supply of lethal weapons to Ukraine.

It is not believed that any decisions have been made at this stage as South Korea carefully considers how to respond.

The IAEA funded Russian scientific research in Crimea after its occupation, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reports.

Two contracts with Russian scientific institutions that included work in Crimea were signed between 2016 and 2019. The IAEA stated that the research was "purely technical" and did not alter the agency's position on recognizing Crimea as part of Ukraine, according to the article.

Ukraine has condemned such projects, stating that they violate the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

One of the largest electronics factories has stopped production after the attack by Ukraine

One of the largest microelectronics manufacturers in the Russian Federation, the Silicon El Group, has suspended operations as a result of a strike by Ukrainian drones, the company's press service reported. According to the information provided, the plant's production and administrative buildings were damaged during the attack, which led to power supply interruptions, damage to energy infrastructure facilities, and the disruption of technological production chains. "All employees" are taking part in eliminating the consequences of the explosions and fires, the company noted.

"The power supply was disrupted, damage was caused to special power supply facilities, and technological production chains were interrupted," the official statement says. According to Oleg Dantsev, CEO of Sremniy El Group, the main task now is "the fastest possible resumption of production of electronic equipment." An examination is currently being conducted to assess the possibility of restoring the damaged facilities. "However, not everything depends on us - there are difficulties with purchasing spare parts to restore technological equipment and energy infrastructure," Dantsev emphasized.

The drone attack that shut down the plant occurred on the night of October 19, RIA Novosti reports, citing a statement from the plant's press service. That same day, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that air defense forces had "destroyed" 17 Ukrainian drones in the skies over Bryansk Oblast that night and in the morning. A similar statement was made by the region's governor, Alexander Bogomaz.

Korea are being shoved ever more closely towards the Americans and the already tight military security deals they have could well intensify and become more of a NATO in the Pacific - its being talked about more and more.
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Thats not just physics. Its economic, political and strategic because as a species its how we ultimately react as a group. Tension builds and builds but eventually something gives. China, Russia and the DPRK - Iran too, had better be careful what they wish for. I’m not saying there will be war, not at all. What I’m saying is things never go as you expect, and when reactions come they’re often the last thing you’re ever ready for.

MILITARY & STRATEGIC:
NORTH KOREA GETS INVOLVED

So, we have now seen video evidence of N. Korean troops collecting supplies and kit at a barracks somewhere along the Trans-Siberia railway. Their numbers are estimated to be 11-12,000 strong, so a Brigade worth at the minimum. At least 1,500 are estimated by South Korea’s National Intelligence Service to be crack special forces operatives, whose principle capabilities are infiltration techniques getting behind enemy lines and causing mayhem.
Let’s be clear about these men. They’re as good as dead. If they aren’t killed by the Ukrainians or shot by the Russians deserting, they will never be allowed back into the slave state for the simple reason they have seen the outside world. Even the concept of a few hundred ever returning and spreading the word of what they might have seen in Russia - that its nothing like what they’ve been taught their entire lives, will be too much for the DPRK régime.
North Korea is basically a feudal society. The regime acts more like a medieval monarchy than it does a communist dictatorship. Indeed it long strayed from communism, developing its own system of Juche. It translates as ‘self reliance’. You are responsible for everything - your survival is your problem. The Leader lays down the laws and you have to live within them.
Society is broken up into the three layers. The Leader, the Elite and the Hostiles - the name the elite refer to everyone beneath them as.
If you are a male born into a family in the elite, almost all of whom live in Pyongyang, say your father is a senior member of the security services, you will inherit a similar position. Anyone below your fathers rank will be considered subservient to you even if they outrank you.
The system of three generations is ingrained in society. Those generals you see in videos laden down with medals - they didn’t earn them. They will almost certainly be the medals earned by their fathers and grandfathers.
If you as member of the Hostiles, commit a crime, especially a political one, your parents as the generation above you, your children as the generation below you, and your brothers and sisters if you have them as your own generation, are all equally guilty and punished accordingly.

I’m not overly concerned with the arrival of these North Korean troops. The DPRK is in no position to keep sending troops to Russia. It seems to be leaving it to the Russians to outfit and equip them as it is. This is a token force to make a point. It tells the West that no matter what we have done to N.Korea they aren’t going away and they can have an impact. The whole tempo of N.Korean actions on the Peninsula has been about stirring up sentiment in the United States to get Trump re-elected. The same way China is acting up around Taiwan, trying to cause issues that might just swing that election one way rather than the other. They all think Trump is a walkover and that he’ll simply step back and let them get on with whatever they want to do. It isn’t about trade for China - its about Taiwan and reunification. For the North Koreans its about attention and getting treated like a normal country when its not. For Russia its anything to upset the West and win the war in Ukraine - and we all know which Presidential candidate is most likely to let Putin have his way.
Meanwhile this mighty alliance which includes Iran - a nation suddenly seeing how its erstwhile allies have vanished into the mist as a massive Israeli strike on the country could happen quite literally any hour now, sits increasingly worried that what its brought down on itself could be devastating and result in terminal civil unrest that upends the régime.
We should not over react to the what N.Korea is doing. If anything it simply hardens S.Korea’s resolve to aid Ukraine - if its arch enemy is attacking it, the south has every incentive to help neutralise it. Japan and S.
