🗣PDP Governors Decry Edo and Ondo Elections as Threats to Democracy
Governors under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have condemned the recently concluded Edo and Ondo governorship elections, calling the Edo poll a "rape of democracy" and alleging manipulation and vote-buying in Ondo.
At a meeting in Jos, the PDP Governors Forum stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) manipulated Edo’s results in favor of the APC candidate, despite PDP’s candidate Asue Ighodalo securing the majority of lawful votes.
The Forum also criticized the Ondo election, citing alleged APC vote-buying and result manipulation, while urging the judiciary and National Assembly to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy by strengthening electoral laws.
PDP governors demanded the party’s National Working Committee convene a National Executive Council meeting by February 2025.
