Kremlin Dictator Putin Banking on War of Attrition Against Ukraine, Says Israeli Military Analyst
Russian president Vladimir Putin is using a strategy of relentless attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and protracted warfare, hoping that Ukraine’s resources will be depleted faster than Russia’s.
Israeli military analyst David Sharp believes that only deterrence tactics can stop the aggressor. According to him, Ukraine needs to possess strike capabilities that would make the threat of their use against targets in Russia serve as a restraining factor.
Sharp emphasizes that a large quantity of ballistic missiles would significantly elevate Ukraine’s military potential.
The pressure, threats, intimidation, and hybrid attacks by the Kremlin against Western nations all serve one purpose—to deprive Ukraine of allied support.
However, a large-scale war with NATO would be disastrous for Russia, as the Alliance's conventional military capabilities are at least twice as powerful as those of Putin’s armed forces. Yet, any conflict between Russia and NATO carries the risk of uncontrolled escalation.
