Dear colleagues,

there is still time to register for the IOP Advanced School in Soft
Condensed Matter ‘Solutions in the Summer’. The School, organised by the
IOP Liquids and Complex Fluids Group, will take place on 5-9 July 2021
as a virtual event.

The aim of this School is to provide a comprehensive foundation for
researchers in the field of soft matter, liquids and complex fluids. The
lectures will introduce key topics of current interest together with the
theoretical, experimental and computer simulation approaches used to
address them. The School is directed towards postgraduate students from
a wide range of backgrounds including physics, chemistry, chemical
engineering and biophysics.

The School website can be found at http://ascm2021.iopconfs.org
The registration deadline is 30 June 2021.

Best regards,
Sergey Lishchuk.

We invite you to apply for a PhD position in the field of atmospheric cloud
research at TU Delft, exploring concepts from dynamical systems theory,
statistical physics, and non-equilibrium thermodynamics.

Clouds, specifically shallow clouds over the oceans, are the largest source
of uncertainty for climate projections. In your PhD research, you will apply
concepts from dynamical systems theory, statistical physics, and
non-equilibrium thermodynamics to analyze large data sets. You will work
with existing data from simulations and observations as well as perform your
own numerical simulations. Within a broad scope, we will guide you in
designing specific research projects that take your own ideas and interests
into account.

We are looking for a strong, curiosity-driven candidate who enjoys
conceptual thinking and modeling as well as computational data analysis. As
a suitable candidate, you may come from a range of backgrounds, especially
also including Physics. You should have practical programming experience,
ideally including data analysis and visualization (e.g., in python). Prior
exposure to dynamical system theory or statistical physics or
non-equilibrium thermodynamics will be beneficial. Prior experience with
atmospheric science and cloud research is not required.

The Physics Department of the University of Turin invites applications for a number of PhD studentships in Physics (https://en.unito.it/postdegree/phd/physics).
Please note that applications must be submitted through the University web portal and that the application deadline is June 18, 2021.

The selection will take place in June and will be based on qualifications, evaluation of the applicant’s research project, and an online interview. The net salary is around 1300 Euro/month. I would be grateful if you could circulate the attached announcement among potential candidates. Don’t hesitate to ask me if you have any question or need assistance in the application process.

A new scheme is being launched here in Ireland -
https://www.sfi.ie/funding/funding-calls/pathway/

Positions are for 4 years and include a PhD student. There is an
internal university review and then a number of proposals are sent
forward for final review. However, in any case this is an excellent
opportunity for early career stage researchers. If you work on high-z
astrophysics, GWs, massive black holes etc drop me a mail and I can give
more details.

Unfortunately the internal review timetable is very tight (early next
week! sorry!) and for that a CV & 3 page proposal is required.

If you are interested let me know.

Best,
John

Post-doc offer on Gravitational Astronomy and Multi-messenger

"We announce a postdoctoral position at the Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris focusing on electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational-wave sources, with a special interest for kilonovae. This position is part of a project supported by the Île-de-France region and brings together three laboratories: the Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris (IAP, F. Daigne, R. Mochkovitch and E. Bertin); the Irène Joliot-Curie laboratory (IJCLab, P. Hello) and the Astroparticle and Cosmology laboratory (APC, A. Coleiro). Our groups are involved in observational and source modeling research activities related to the multiwavelength and multimessenger study of extreme transients—in particular compact binary mergers. IAP, IJCLAB and APC are members of the GRANDMA telescope network, the SVOM space mission, and the Virgo gravitational interferometer.

See attached document for details and application procedure - deadline: 16 April 2021.
