🧩 Cause and Effect
When the Kursk operation began, the Russian information campaign was heavily promoting the narrative that the offensive in Russia became possible because Belarus had pulled its troops away from the border with Ukraine. The intention was to sow discord between the Russians and the Belarusians.
However, Lukashenko took note of this and redeployed special operations forces, heavy equipment, artillery, multiple-launch rocket system and Wagner troops to the border.
Now, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will have to shift their troops to the border to counter this threat—forces that are critically needed both in Kursk and even more so in Pokrovsk.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs even urged Lukashenko to withdraw his troops:
"We call on Belarusian officials not to make tragic mistakes for their own country under pressure from Moscow, and for its armed forces to cease hostile actions and withdraw troops from the state border of Ukraine to a distance exceeding the range of existing fire systems in Belarus."
The situation closely resembles the defeat of the Wagner column in Africa: initially used for their own purposes, they then have to deal with the consequences. Sometimes it’s better to remain silent than to push simplistic narratives for short-term gain 🧩
